PROTOTYPE
SPORTS CARS
The Prototypes are the flagships of North American Sports
Car Racing.
Purpose-built racing cars from England, Italy, France
and America compete in the series. Reminiscent of the
old Can-Am cars, the Prototype championship boasts exotic,
sports racing cars capable of speeds in excess of 200
miles per hour. Their open cockpit design gives spectators
a clear view of some of the world's greatest sports
car drivers as they put man and machine to the ultimate
test of speed and endurance.
Prototypes are a manufacturer's battleground. It's Ford
versus Ferrari versus Chevrolet versus Lotus versus
Oldsmobile versus Audi versus Mazda versus BMW...
Prototype chassis, engines, suspensions, drivers and
teams must be able to endure
for 24-hour races, yet have the finesse and speed to
perform perfectly in a two-hour
sprint race.
The Landmark Prototype Sports Car is an all-American made
R&S Mark III, powered by a 6 liter, 700 horsepower
Ford V-8 capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 miles
per hour in under 3 seconds and a top speed approaching
200 MPH. |
